Give Guests What They Really Want (and it's not new flooring)

The average vacation rental traveller inquires about multiple properties when travelling to a particular region. Unlike traditional real estate, where people are considering homes as a long term assets and things like flooring and fixtures are very important, most people considering a vacation rental are usually just looking for something clean and comfortable as they will only be using the property for a week or less. So what are the factors that make a property stand out? Essentially it comes down to the little amenities, especially the amenities that will save them money or that makes their life less stressful.

Think about it, if you are travelling with a 2 year old and you have two homes that are fairly similar but one has a pack-n-play and a high chair and the other does not, which one are you going to choose? Discussing which amenities are best with your reservation agent is a great idea. Never underestimate the power of the following amenities.

  • Pool - Most requested item from high end or luxury travelers.

  • AC (window mounted units can be put in for a low price and some people will NOT book a home without AC)

  • Gas BBQ

  • Bikes

  • Hot Tub

  • Air Mattresses and extra blankets

  • Kayaks (and straps to put them on a car)

  • Pack N Play

  • High Chairs

  • Snorkels and Fins

  • Fishing Gear

  • Beach Towels

  • Surfboards

  • Boogie boards

  • Beach Umbrella

  • Beach Chairs

  • Kids toys

  • Golf Clubs

  • Blow dryer

  • Pool table

  • Ping Pong Table

  • Foosball Table

  • Tennis Rackets

  • Spices

  • Extra Chairs (for dinner table).

You don't need every single item on the list above but consider which ones will be most meaningful to your guests and discuss your ideas with your reservation agent.
